Bodyguard

I have always said that I don’t have many things of material value that I would be devastated if I lost it. Last year I prepared for my first hurricane in Florida and I packed in a suitcase (a small one) the items I valued the most. It was extremely eye opening and a little funny that my life fit in a small suitcase.

But really, my life was the people around me and if I lost everything else, I wanted to protect my heart...my family.

In the same way I am protective over my relationships with my family. I want my children to be loved and encouraged, to believe that they have a purpose and are worthy.

In my journey of freedom through Jesus, I have held one verse close and it continues to pop up.

Proverbs 4:23

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything flows from it.

This is such a powerful message as the enemy is constantly trying to tell us we are not loved, we are alone, we are a disappointment, or a failure. The enemy’s lies are more believable when we are isolated.

I believe that as we build an intimate relationship with God and start to read the scriptures and store them in our hearts, we can combat the enemy’s attack by telling him that God loved us before we loved him (1 John 4:19), that we have a purpose (Ephesians 2:10), and we are not alone (Matthew 11:28).

Our strength comes from what God has done and not what we do.

The Holy Spirit is our bodyguard. And who can stop the Lord Almighty!
